The Gammelskov Battery (No. 18)

The Gammelskov Battery was the only one of the heavy batteries, equipped with two 24 cm. naval guns in armored turrets.
Range 16.5 kilometres and a grenade weight 160-190 kg.

With its 250 m. long battery trench, the Gammelskov was the largest battery in the stronghold.

There were two emplacements for the guns in the battery, ammunition magazines and a command post.

The battery was not completed.  It lacked bunkers for the crew, why the ammunition stores in the beginning used as shelter. This was not useful, why construction of 2 crew bunkers was initiated. These, however, were never finished.

The Military railroad  is distinguished by its size, since it was split in two. One that probably were used for assembly, while the other probably was used for the conveyance of ammunition.

Also in this battery, there have been made major drainage works.

To day only the demolished remains are left. The are, however, impressive by their size.
